THE PARISH OF S. MICHAEL AND ALL ANGELS ABBEY WOOD.

A NOVENA OF PRAYER

FOR OUR PARISH

FROM ASCENSION DAY TO PENTECOST’

 2020

Pentecost - Davao Catholic Herald

From the Ascension until Pentecost the Apostles gathered\ together with the Virgin Mary and prayed. It is very old and widespread tradition for Christians to gather for nine days in prayer as they did. This year let us especially unite together in prayer, praying for the renewal of our life mission as a Parish. We pray that the Holy Spirit will come and guide us and empower us. That we will meet the new challenges that we now face in our life together and in the power of the Spirit we will serve our community and its needs.

Please join this in saying the Veni Creator Spiritus.  One of the Churches great prayers to the Holy Spirit.

Veni Creator Spiritus

Come, Holy Ghost, our souls inspire,
and lighten with celestial fire.
Thou the anointing Spirit art,
who dost thy sevenfold gifts impart.

Thy blessed unction from above
is comfort, life, and fire of love.
Enable with perpetual light
the dullness of our blinded sight.

Anoint and cheer our soiled face
with the abundance of thy grace.
Keep far from foes, give peace at home:
where thou art guide, no ill can come.

Teach us to know the Father, Son,
and thee, of both, to be but One,
that through the ages all along,
this may be our endless song:

Praise to thy eternal merit,
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Latin, ninth century;
trans. John Cosin, 1627

O God, who at Pentecost

sanctified your whole Church in every people and nation,

pour out, we pray, the gifts of the Holy Spirit

across the face of the earth

and, with the divine grace that was at work

when the Gospel was first proclaimed,

fill now once more the hearts of believers.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,

who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
