EASTER 2020

THE SECOND SUNDAY OF EASTER        Divine Mercy Sunday

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH AT HOME

Introduction to the Prayer

Christ is risen

He is risen indeed.

The Easter Anthems

CHRIST our Passover is sacrificed for us : therefore let us keep the feast;   Not with the old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. Corinthians 5..

CHRIST being raised from the dead dieth no more death hath no more dominion over him.  For in that he died, he died unto sin once but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.    Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin but alive unto God, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 6. 9.

CHRIST is risen from the dead and become the first-fruits of them that slept.     For since by man came death by man came also the resurrection of the dead.   For as in Adam all die even so in Christ shall all be made alive. Corinthians 15, 20.

    Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit;
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be world without end. Amen.

THE PSALMS                           Psalm 117 (118)

A cry of rejoicing and triumph

“This is the stone which was rejected by you builders, but which has become the cornerstone” (Acts 4:11).

He was put to death for our sins and raised to life to justify us, alleluia.

Give thanks to the Lord for he is good,
for his love endures for ever.
Let the sons of Israel say:
‘His love endures for ever.’

Let the sons of Aaron say
‘His love endures for ever.’
Let those who fear the Lord say:
‘His love endures for ever.’

I called to the Lord in my distress;
he answered and freed me.
The Lord is at my side; I do not fear.
What can man do against me?

The Lord is at my side as my helper;
I shall look down on my foes.
It is better to take refuge in the Lord
than to trust in men;
it is better to take refuge in the Lord
than to trust in princes.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son
and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning,
is now, and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen.

He was put to death for our sins and raised to life to justify us, alleluia.

Short Reading    Hebrews 10:12-14

A longer reading may be used here.  The Easter Gospel could be read.

Christ has offered one single sacrifice for sins, and then taken his place forever, at the right hand of God, where he is now waiting until his enemies are made into a footstool for him. By virtue of that one single offering, he has achieved the eternal perfection of all whom he is sanctifying.

A time of silence may follow to reflect on God,s word..

Acts 10:40-43

This is the day which was made by the Lord: let us rejoice and be glad, alleluia.

The Gospel Canticle

Put your hand here and see the mark of the nails; doubt no longer but believe, alleluia.

The Benedictus

Blessed be the Lord,+ the God of Israel!
He has visited his people and redeemed them.

He has raised up for us a mighty saviour
in the house of David his servant,
as he promised by the lips of holy men,
those who were his prophets from of old

A saviour who would free us from our foes,
from the hands of all who hate us.
So his love for our fathers is fulfilled
and his holy covenant remembered.

He swore to Abraham our father to grant us,
that free from fear, and saved from the hands of our foes, that we might serve him in holiness and justice
all the days of our life in his presence.

As for you, little child,
you shall be called a prophet of God, the Most High.
You shall go ahead of the Lord
to prepare his ways before him,

To make known to his people their salvation
through forgiveness of all their sins,
the loving-kindness of the heart of our God
who visits us like the dawn from on high.

He will give light to those in darkness,
those who dwell in the shadow of death,.
and guide us into the way of peace.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,

as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,

world without end. Amen.

Put your hand here and see the mark of the nails; doubt no longer but believe, alleluia.

Prayers and Intercessions.

Other petitions may be added to those given.

King of glory, we look forward to the day of your coming,

then we shall see your face and share in your splendour.

Christ, our life, save us.

Let us pray to the Father, the all-powerful God, who raised up Jesus, our prince and our Saviour.

Glorify us, Lord, with the glory of Christ.

Father, you brought your beloved Son from the darkness of death to the light of glory; let us enter into the regions of your own wonderful light.

Glorify us, Lord, with the glory of Christ.

You saved us through faith in Jesus Christ; help us to live today in the grace of our baptism.

Glorify us, Lord, with the glory of Christ.

You have told us to seek the things that are in heaven; enable us to resist the attraction of sin.

Glorify us, Lord, with the glory of Christ.

Reveal the riches of our hidden life in Christ that people may see the signs of the new heaven and the new earth.

Glorify us, Lord, with the glory of Christ.

A time of silent prayer may follow.

Please remember these people in your prayers

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

The Concluding Prayer of the Sunday is then said.

God of eternal compassion,
each Easter you rekindle the faith
of your consecrated people.
Give them still greater grace,
so that all may truly understand
the waters in which they were cleansed,
the Spirit by which they were reborn,
the blood by which they were redeemed.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
Amen.

The Lord bless us, and keep us from all evil, and bring us to everlasting life.
Amen.

Let us Bless the Lord, Alleluia, Alleluia
Thanks be to God Alleluia Alleluia.

MAKING A SPIRITUAL COMMUNION.

Even if we cannot be at mass and receive Holy Communion, we can always make  a Spiritual Communion. God will always fill our hearts with his grace if we ask.

My Jesus,
I believe that You
are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love You above all things,
and I desire to receive You into my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment
receive You sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You.   Amen.
